24 Dec 2022, from Lito Hernandez:
Is re-acquired Philippine citizenship the same as dual citizenship in concept Roger? I am a Permanent Resident of Canada and still scratching my head if I will either go for Canadian citizenship and apply for dual citizenship or stay as a Filipino and just hop from Canada to Philippines to US to visit my apos there. Based on your experience, can you give me a tip on what to do?
Same date, from Rogelio:
Re-acquired PH citizenship is same as dual citizenship. I am not familiar with the Permanent Resident status of Canada. My experience as a Filipino giving up my natural born pinoy citizenship or nationality when I pledged my alliance to United States. When my wife bought a small lot here in Davao, she cant include my name in the titling process cause I am an American, that was in 2019. The DENR rep who interviewed me last April 2022 encouraged me to get a dual citizenship cause without it, my title cant be released.
So the first thing I did was to go the website of PH Consulate San Francisco to find out the requirement to apply for dual citizenship. I FOUND out that most important requirement is a certified copy of my birth certificate from PH statistic agency. THERE is a link in the consulate website how to get this. Once I secured my birth certificate, I started compiling the rest of the required documents for rhe processing of dual citizenship. HAVING these documents in order will help you expedite the processing of your dual citizenship. Next I secured a date/time of appoitment at SFO consulate. I WAS fortunate that the consulate extended an out-reach mission to Seattle thus saving me expenses on airfare and hotel. So I secured an online appointment for the mission. I went to mission with all my documents and the cash processing fee. IN ABOUT 1.5 hours I pledged my oath of alliance to the PH consul SFO and got my certificate of re-acquired PH citizenship. I DID not get a PH passport but you can also get that on the same day if comply all the requirement forthe passport
As I mentioned in my first post – Mark was happy to receive a copy of my re-acquired PH citizenship (thats the proof of dual citizen which I also used with the BI for entry to PH togethet with my US passport) Now I am in the process of getting a PH national ID and senior ID. MARK requested me to send him a copy as soon as I get it. I encourage all PH 678 to secure your dual citizenship/ph passport and include a date/time for appt with Mark. It will take less than 2 hours for him to explain the titling process. AND If you have arrears be ready to pay for it.
